Begonnen hat Sheehans Karriere als Bassist mit der Band Talas aus Buffalo, die 1980 im Vorprogramm von Van Halen spielte. Zuvor spielt er in lokalen Cover-Bands. Mit der Band UFO ging er 1983 auf Europa-Tournee.
