Sinan Çetin 1953 yılında Van'da dünyaya geldi, sanatçı 1970’li yıllarda resim ve fotoğraf alanında amatör çalışmalar yaptı. Sinemaya 1975 yılında Zeki Ökten’in çektiği Hanzo adlı filmde asistanlık yaparak başladı. Daha sonra yönetmen Şerif Gören ve Atıf Yılmaz ile birlikte çalıştı. 1977 yılında Hacettepe Üniversitesi Sanat tarihi bölümünden mezun oldu.
