鬼才ボイル監督の長編デビュー作。 英国のグラスゴー。広々としたアパートで洒落た共同生活を営む、アレックス、デヴィッド、ジュリエットという3人の若者は、4人目の同居者を募集する。ところが、彼らが4人目に選んだヒューゴと名乗る謎の男性は、入居早々、ドラッグの過剰摂取で急死してしまう。さらに、彼のベッドの下からは大金が詰まったバッグが見つかる。3人はひそかに彼の死体を埋めて大金をせしめるが、やがて彼らの間でも仲間割れが生じていき……。
