Siamo nell'anno 2005.La guerra fra gli Autobots ed i Decepticons si e' inasprita su tutto Cybertron, che i Decepticons reclamano come loro. Gli Autobots devono ora affrontare un futuro incerto. Megatron ed un gruppo di Decepticons sbandati, sono stati trasformati in micidiali guerrieri da un demone consuma-pianeti di nome Unicron. Adesso Galvatron, Scourge and Cyclonus devono distruggere la Matrice della Leadership degli Autobot, altrimenti Unicron distruggera' Cybertron. Optimus Prime predice che un Autobot si ergera' dal suo ruolo ed usera' la potenza della Matrice per illuminare l'ora buia degli Autobots.
